Developing and Implementing an Outward Mindset

The Commissioned Officers Foundation and the Commissioned Officers Association are committed to supporting and advancing the interests of the Commissioned Corps and its officers. COF/COA is pleased to support a wide variety of educational and training opportunities for officers across the public health professions. COF/COA has supported this 2-day leadership development program, “Developing and Implementing an Outward Mindset” (DIOM), at the annual Symposium for the past 2 years.

We recognize that support or time for travel is difficult for many officers. To help address this challenge, we believe in “bringing the training to you” -  we have supported trainings in Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, and as far as Anchorage, AK to date. We are now supporting travel and coordination for our trainer to hold a DIOM near Atlanta, GA at the FDA District Office located at 2077 Convention Center Concourse, College Park, GA (by Hartsfield airport), on Thursday and Friday, November 8-9th.

For more information about this training or logistics, please contact CAPT Jason Woo at The expected cost will be $175 for officers paying out of pocket (or $200 if their agency can purchase the training materials through the GSA approved contract schedule) and is eligible for up to 15 CE hrs for physicians, nurses and pharmacists. CDC Supervisory credit has also been requested and approved. Additional information is included in the attachments and at

The Commissioned Officers Association (COA) is a voluntary professional organization of Commissioned Officers of the US Public Health Service. The Atlanta COA mission is to advance the PHS by uniting, serving and advocating for the approximately 1,000 Atlanta-based Commissioned Officers.

The Professional Development Committee is charged with creating great Lunch & Learn events, hosting the annual September President’s update and State of the ACOA, planning group APFT events, organizing officer photo sessions, arranging speed-mentoring events, and organizing other exciting learning opportunities throughout the year. It’s a fun, energetic committee great for anyone who is interested in advancing the careers and experiences of ACOA officers.
