Call for Volunteers for the Veterans Empowerment Organization Bedding/Linen Drive Collection 

August 21 - September 9, 2017

You are invited to help support homeless Veterans in the Atlanta metro area. The Veterans Empowerment Organization ( empowers the lives of military veterans through comprehensive social reintegration programs. This event will assist in the collection of new and gently used professional clothing (suits, dress shirts, shoes and socks) needed for Veteran residents (mostly males).

Please join the JOAG Public Health and Community Service Committee, Uniformed Services Community Service Subcommittee, and Atlanta Commissioned Officers Association to honor and support these service members who served in our military and made sacrifices for our freedoms and way of life. This activity also supports the National Prevention Strategy priority to improve mental and emotional well-being and will enhance visibility of USPHS in the community. We are seeking both volunteers to assist with this event.

Volunteers: PHS officers, civilian co-workers, family, and friends to serve as donors/volunteers. Volunteers will serve as points of contact during the donation period to assist with collecting items, inventorying items, and educating the public about VEO and veteran social reintegration programs. Volunteers will be provided an overview of collection procedures, timeline, and education materials during a one-time meeting the week of August 21st (exact date TBD). Volunteers are also tasked with bringing all collected professional clothing to the central collection point (Target parking lot) on Saturday, September 9th, 2017.


Uniform of the Day (Drop-Off Event): PHS t-shirt and loose fitting pants or jeans with no rips, holes or tears. Shorts or skirts at the knee are also permitted. Family and friends may wear similar, appropriate clothing.

There is no limit to the number of officers who may support this event. All officers are welcome to volunteer. No special skills are required and there is no associated cost to participate.
