  • Editor Needed for the ACOA Newsletter The Signal

The Atlanta Commissioned Officers Association (ACOA) is seeking a motivated ACOA member officer to serve as the next ACOA Editor for our bi-monthly newsletter, The Signal. The newsletter is an important mechanism through which ACOA communicates pertinent information to local officers such as upcoming events, announcements, and articles on a wide range of topics including health care benefits, Space-A travel, health and wellness, and officer professional development. Responsibilities of the newsletter Editor include reviewing and editing all content for upcoming issues of The Signal (compiled by other members of ACOA), for grammar, style, and spelling; as well as verifying dates, contact information, websites, picture captions, etc. Additional responsibilities include submitting edited content to the ACOA Executive Committee for review, and incorporating all edits and comments.

The newsletter is released during the first week of February, April, June, August, October, and December. This position requires 4-6 hours of work during the 10 days prior to the newsletter release date (2-3 hours for initial editing; with the remaining time devoted to follow-up emails and phone calls, and incorporating comments from the ACOA Executive Committee). The Editor’s name appears at the bottom of each issue of the newsletter; and is recognized by ACOA each year with a thank you letter from the ACOA President that can be included in your eOPF.

If you have questions about the position, please contact the current editor, LCDR L. Hannah Gould. If you are interested in this important volunteer PHS support activity, please send an e-mail to CDR Danice Eaton. In the e-mail, include a brief statement indicating why you would like the position and list any pertinent skills or relevant past experiences. Preferred start date is December 1.
